Named For Lakewood

Lakewood, Ohio

Cohassett Avenue

VerifiedPlaces

Named by Nelson Cotabish, Lakewood's first mayor, after Cohasset, Massachusetts, a Boston suburb he admired while traveling for National Carbon.

He liked its cobblestone houses and charm, which influenced his own partly cobblestone, Dutch colonial house at Detroit and Cohassett. He once offered it to the city as a museum; never officially accepted. A footnote says the Massachusetts town has one 't' but the Lakewood street has two.
