Lakewood, Ohio

Elbur Avenue

VerifiedFounding families and early settlers

Named by Wilbur Bailey by combining the start of his wife Ella's name with the end of his own.

His father William Bailey, a Boston native, ran a shoe store in Oberlin, then invested in a fruit farm here (cherries; the road through it was Cherry Lane). With two marriages he had 17 children and the family founded the Bailey Wallpaper Company at West 98th Street. Wilbur inherited much of the land and named the street when it was cut through.
