Lakewood, Ohio
Hall Avenue
Named for the family of John Hall, youngest son of English immigrants Joseph Hall and Sarah Curtis, whose farm was allotted.
Joseph and Sarah came from England in 1837 with five children and built a stone house at Marlowe and Detroit, where two more children were born. Joseph gave each of four sons 80 acres. John became the most prosperous (fruit, dairy), was once president of the Rocky River Bank, and in 1875 built a Victorian home on the present Y.M.C.A.-Y.W.C.A. site, with a garden containing transplants from Dr. Jared P. Kirtland's garden.
