Revely Avenue

VerifiedFounding families and early settlers

Named for Miss Ellen G. Revely, principal of the Old Normal School on Eagle Street in Cleveland, a favorite of the Lorenzo French family.

The French family had a large farm and cider mill at Madison and Warren; daughter May, later a Cleveland school principal, trained under Miss Revely. When the farm was subdivided the family asked that a street carry her name, originally pronounced 'Reevely'. Neighbor Fannie Swingler Stevens remembered her as a lady with a beautiful face who came to Sunday dinner.
