VerifiedFounding families and early settlers

Named for Archer Webb, an Englishman who arrived in 1853 and bought 45 acres where he built his home.

In 1871 he sold an acre to the school board for West School, replaced a year later by a brick school that served until 1899 when a four-room brick school (the nucleus of McKinley school on West Clifton) took over. He joined brothers John and Daniel and the Hutchin family to found the first Lakewood Methodist Church (Summit and Detroit) in 1876.
