Named For Lakewood

Lakewood, Ohio

West Clifton Boulevard

VerifiedFounding families and early settlers

Named for two people: John M. West, who had a 700-acre farm in the West Park area, and his infant grandson Clifton.

West beautified his farm with an artificial lake, lawns and shrubs so much that it was long called West's Park. His daughter Frances married Christopher C. Southern, whose home stood where St. Peter's Church is (Detroit and West Clifton). When their infant son Clifton died they named Clifton Boulevard for him, later combined with the grandfather's name to make West Clifton.
